8.2 Asking someone to do something

Ada beberapa cara untuk meminta seseorang melakukan sesuatu dengan
cara yang sopan dan tidak langsung. Kita sering menggunakan ‘please
‘untuk membuat permintaan kami lebih sopan.

Useful Expressions

• Could you just switch the projector on behind you?
• Could you tell me, please, what time the flight arrives?
• Would you tell her that Adrian phoned?
• Would you take the call for him, please?

Untuk menambah tingkat permintaan lebih sopan dapat menambahkan
‘perhaps’atau ‘possibly’ setelah ‘Could you’.
• Yuni, could you possibly take me to the station on your way to work
this morning?

Jika ingin bersikap sangat sopan, bisa menggunakan :
• ‘Do you think you could...?’ atau
• ‘I wonder if you could...?’

Contoh :
• Do you think you could help me?
• I wonder if you could look after my garden for me while I’m
away?

Dapat juga menggunakan :
• ‘Would you mind + -ing form ...?

Contoh :
• Would you mind fetching another chair?
• Would you mind waiting a moment?
